Sunrise
Sunrise
If you could smell a sunrise...
The largest iron ore mine west of the Mississippi River wasn't named after the color of the soil or the smell in the air, but for the view of the sunrise above Eureka Canyon where the town of Hartville is now located.
Sunrise, which first began as a copper mine, was a company town owned by CF & I. 40 million tons of iron ore were produced in the mine's lifetime. When the price of iron ore dropped in 1980, the mine closed down and the town was abandoned. What remains today are many foundations, some buildings and the view of the sunrise.
So...if you could smell a sunrise, it would probably be sweet like summer rain and invigorating like sunlight.
